FAQs:
1. What is person-centred counselling?
Person-centred counselling is a form of therapy where you are at the centre of the process. Rather than being directed or analysed, you are supported to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe, non-judgemental space. The focus is on understanding your experience and helping you move forward in your own way.
2. Do I need to know what to talk about?
Not at all. Many people come to counselling unsure of what to say. You can bring whatever feels important in the moment, and we can work through it together at your pace.
3. Will you give me advice or tell me what to do?
Person-centred counselling does not involve giving advice or telling you what to do. Instead, I support you in understanding yourself more clearly, so you can make your own decisions with confidence.
4. How many sessions will I need?
This varies from person to person. Some people come for a few sessions, while others choose longer-term support. We can review this together as we go.
5. Is everything I say confidential?
Yes, everything you share is confidential. The only exceptions are if there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or others, in which case I may need to take appropriate action to ensure safety.
6. What can counselling help with?
Counselling can help with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, stress, low mood, trauma, loss, relationship difficulties, or simply feeling stuck or overwhelmed.
7. What happens in the first session?
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. You can talk about what has brought you to counselling, ask any questions, and see how it feels to work together. There is no pressure to continue.
8. Is it normal to feel nervous before counselling?
Yes, it’s completely normal. Many people feel unsure or anxious before their first session. We can take things at your pace, and there is no expectation for you to share more than you feel comfortable with.
9. How is person-centred therapy different from other approaches?
Person-centred therapy focuses on the relationship between you and the counsellor, rather than techniques or diagnosis. It is based on the belief that you have the capacity to grow and make sense of your own experiences when given the right environment.
10. Do you offer online counselling, and is it effective?
Yes, I offer online counselling, usually via Microsoft Teams. Many people find it just as effective as face-to-face sessions, and it can be more flexible and convenient.
